Pastor Jordan Hall joins Tim to discuss John Pipers teachings on Justification.
Video of the interview portion of this podcast:
[…] of Federal Vision or denying Sola Fide altogether (the accusations are not without merit), Piper’s Desiring God has now denied the heart and substance of the doctrine […]
Believers will NOT be judged ultimately by our works!
Do not bear false witness against thy neighbor by taking out of context what he said in the rest of the sermon.
I’m not a Piper fan because of some of the things JD mentioned plus a few more. But I’m trying to give him the benefit of a doubt in this controversy rather than just pile on, because of my bias. Nevertheless, I think Piper is trying to be nuanced but is not very good at it. He would be much better off to speak plainly and simply instead. In any case it would have been nice for Piper to have had these concerns when he was being chummy with Driscoll. If, however, Piper indeed doesn’t really understand justification properly, he would do well to re-read many of the scriptures on this topic, such as Titus 3:4-8; seems pretty clear to me;
4 But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, 5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. 8 This is a trustworthy statement; and concerning these things I want you to speak confidently, so that those who have believed God will be careful to engage in good deeds. These things are good and profitable for men.
Very good. Graciously handled. John Piper needs to bring some precision to restate his credentials.
